Accessing and Understanding Common Assessment Reports | For Admins

Common Assessment Admin Reports give district leaders, school administrators, and instructional coaches a comprehensive view of student performance across schools, classes, standards, and subgroups. Use these reports to track progress against accountability targets, identify where students need support, and share data with your team.



Who Can Access Admin Reports

Your access level determines which Common Assessment Reports you can view and the scope of data available:

  • System Admin: All CAs across the entire organization. Organization-wide report scope.

  • School Admin: All CAs connected to their school. School-wide report scope.

  • Assessment Coordinator: CAs they created (organization-wide scope) and CAs assigned to them (class-wide scope).


Tip: If you don’t see a specific Common Assessment in your report list, check with your System Admin to confirm your role and school assignment. Refer to the Roles and Permissions for Common Assessments article for details.


Accessing a Common Assessment Report

  1. Click ‘Common Assessments’ in the left navigation pane.

  2. Find the Common Assessment you want to review. Reports are available for CAs in the ‘Active’ or ‘Ended’ tabs.

  3. Click on the assessment name to open the CA details page.

  4. Click the View Report button to open the Admin Report/Organization Report.

  5. Use the ‘Filter’ button in the top right to refine your view by schoolclass, or subgroup.



Understanding the Report Overview

The top of the Admin Report shows overall assessment accuracy and performance band distribution across all participants.

  • Overall Accuracy: The percentage of questions answered correctly across all participating students, using unique participants and their best attempts.

  • Performance Band Bar: A color-coded horizontal bar showing student distribution across Did Not Meet (Red), Partially Met (Yellow), Met (Green), and Exceeded (Blue).

  • Participant Count: The total number of unique students who submitted at least one attempt.


Below the overview, four tabs let you explore the data from different angles: Standards, Schools, Classes, and Sub Groups.


Accountability Goals



What is an Accountability Goal


An accountability goal is a percentage threshold that your district defines to measure success. For example, a goal of 70% means you expect at least 70% of students to score in the Met or Exceeded performance bands.


Accountability goals are configured during Common Assessment creation or in the CA settings. They can be updated at any time, and changes reflect in reports within one day.


⚠️ Note: If you don’t see the accountability goal in your report, the CA creator may not have set one. Contact the CA creator to confirm.


How Goals Appear in Reports

Once an accountability goal is set, the report highlights performance relative to the target:

  • In the Summary tabs (Standards, Schools, Classes, Sub Groups), cohorts that meet the goal are visually distinguished from those that do not.

  • A cohort meets the goal when the combined share of participants in Met + Exceeded is greater than or equal to the accountability goal percentage.

  • This spotlighting appears throughout the report, including in L2 drilldown views.

Drilling Down into Standards

You can click on any standard in the Standards tab to see deeper, in-place insights without leaving the page. The L2 drilldown view shows:

  • School-wise performance: How each school performed on that specific standard.

  • Class-wise performance: How individual classes performed on that standard.

  • Accountability goal spotlight: If a goal is set, schools and classes meeting or missing the goal are indicated.

  • Item-level performance: Accuracy for each question tagged to that standard, helping you identify specific items driving overall performance.


    Tip: Filters you apply at the report level (by school, class, or subgroup) carry into L2 drilldown views. For example, if you filter the report to show only English Learner students, the Standards L2 will reflect only that subgroup's performance.



Drilling Down into Schools

Click on any school in the Schools tab to explore that school’s performance. The Schools L2 drilldown shows:

  • Standard-wise performance: How the school performed across each assessed standard.

  • Class-wise performance: A breakdown of classes within that school and their respective accuracy.

  • Strengths and needs: Quickly identify which standards are strong and which need support at the school level.


You can also click View School Report on the L2 to open the full school report in a new tab. This is the same view that school leaders see and is useful for sharing with principals or department heads.

Using the Deep Dive Section

The Deep Dive section provides a tabular heatmap for granular performance analysis. You can switch between two views:

  • Absolute accuracy: Shows raw accuracy percentages for each cell in the heatmap.

  • Performance: Shows results mapped to performance bands, making it easier to see which students or cohorts met expectations.


You can group the heatmap data by Schools, Classes, Sub Groups, or Students to analyze performance from different angles. Within each grouping, you can sort by accuracy or by performance band to organize results and surface patterns. Color-coded cells help you quickly identify strengths and areas needing support.


Grouping by Schools

Group by Schools to see how each school performed across standards or items. This view helps district leaders quickly compare school-level performance side-by-side and identify which schools are strong or need additional support. Use the accuracy filter to highlight schools falling below a specific threshold.


Grouping by Classes

Group by Classes to drill into class-level performance across standards or items. This is especially useful for school administrators and instructional coaches who need to compare how different classes within a school performed and identify specific classes that may need targeted instructional support.


Grouping by Sub Groups

Group data by demographic subgroups (e.g., gender, EL status, ethnicity, grade) to analyze how different cohorts performed across standards or items. This view helps identify equity gaps and target interventions to specific student populations.

Use filters to select accuracy ranges and isolate cohorts that need attention.


Grouping by Individual Students

You can group by “Students” in the Deep Dive to see individual student performance across all standards or items. To use this view:


1. Navigate to the Deep Dive section of the report.

2. Select Students from the grouping options.

3. Choose to view performance across Standards or Items.

4. Use the accuracy filter to find students within specific performance ranges (e.g., students scoring below 40% for intervention).


This view lets you compare students side-by-side and identify individual patterns, strengths, and needs. It’s particularly valuable for intervention planning and identifying students who need enrichment or remediation.


Viewing Item-Level Performance

The Items section shows accuracy data for every question in the Common Assessment. For each item, you can see:

  • The question accuracy percentage across all participants

  • Whether the question was flagged as incorrectly tagged or graded


Click on any item to expand the Response Analysis view, which shows:

  • The correct answer to the question

  • Each answer option that students selected

  • The percentage and number of students who selected each option


Use item analysis to identify questions that were disproportionately missed. This helps you determine whether the issue is instructional (students didn’t learn the concept) or assessment-related (the question was confusing or incorrectly tagged).



Downloading Your Report

You can download your CA Admin Report as a PDF or Excel file for use in meetings, emails, and improvement planning.

1. Open the Common Assessment report you want to export.

2. Click the Download button in the top right corner of the report. A dropdown menu will appear with two options: Download PDF and Download Excel.

3. Select your preferred format. The PDF provides a Wayground-branded report; the Excel file provides the underlying data in spreadsheet format for custom analysis.


The PDF includes the performance summary views for Standards, Schools, Classes, Subgroups, and Item Analysis. The Excel download provides the same data in spreadsheet format, allowing you to perform custom calculations, build additional charts, or integrate CA data into existing district analysis tools. For interactive exploration, drilldowns, and filtering, use the in-product report.


Tip: Use the PDF for sharing in PLC meetings and leadership reviews; the Wayground-branded format ensures a professional, standardized look. Use the Excel download when you need to run custom analysis or combine CA data with other district data sources.



Tips & Best Practices

  • Set accountability goals before the assessment window opens. This ensures reports are meaningful from the moment results start coming in.

  • Start with the Summary, then drill down. The Summary gives you the big picture. Use L2 drilldowns to investigate specific areas of concern.

  • Use Student Deep Dive for intervention lists. Filter by accuracy range (e.g., below 40%) to quickly generate lists of students needing support.

  • Download reports before meetings. Generate PDFs for distribution before PLC or leadership meetings, and use Excel downloads when teams need to work with the raw data.

  • Cross-reference subgroup data. Check subgroup performance to identify equity gaps that may not be visible in overall accuracy numbers..aa
