TABLE OF CONTENTS

These are the different types of questions available on Wayground:

Basic question types

Multiple-choice

Available on all plans

Multiple choice supports questions with two or more (up to five) answer options; only one option is the correct answer. A student can only select one answer option.

You can also click on the 'Multiple correct answers' option if the question has multiple correct answers.

Pro tip: For quicker creation, simply type in the question, and an option to generate answer options will appear automatically! Just hover over one of the option boxes and click on 'Generate'.

Multi-select

Available on all plans

The multi-select question format enables students to choose multiple answers from a list of options in response to a question. This approach encourages critical thinking and allows students to demonstrate a more nuanced understanding of the material by selecting all relevant responses instead of being limited to just one.

True or False

Available on all plans

The True or False question type is a quick and effective way to assess student understanding. It is ideal for quick evaluations and well-suited for assessing knowledge based on factual information. It works exactly like a multiple-choice question, where students need to either select 'True' or 'False' as their correct answer.

Fill in the Blanks

Available on all plans

The Fill in the Blanks question type enables students to manually type answers either in a single input field or in separate boxes per letter.

This question type supports alternative answer options.

Students can also show their work in assessments that require material to be uploaded for evaluation.

You can read more about Fill in the Blanks here.

Open-ended

Available on all plans

Open-ended questions are long-answer questions. The character limit is 1000. A message appears when the answer reaches 800 characters. Students can also show their work in assessments that require work to be submitted for evaluation.

There are two ways in which open-ended questions can be graded on Wayground:

  1. You can manually grade them with the help of flexible grading, or
  2. You can save time and use Wayground AI to automate the grading process

Interactive video

Available on all plans

Transform any video into an interactive learning experience by adding questions that pause the video at key moments. This ensures that students understand the material as they go.

While adding questions to your video, you can choose from Multiple-Choice, Fill-in-the-Blank, Hotspot, Drop-Down, Drag-and-Drop, Categorize, and Open-ended questions.

You can also explore a vast library of pre-made Interactive Videos created by the teacher community.

Read more about the Interactive Video feature here.

Passage (Reading Comprehension)

Available on all plans

With this question type, you can show students multiple questions based on a single passage or media. This helps break a complex question down into several parts while improving analytical and critical thinking skills.

Each Passage can contain as many questions with 10+ question types as you need. You can create the reference material and questions manually, or you can allow Wayground AI to generate them for you!

You can:

  • choose from pre-made passages in the Wayground Library, thoughtfully selected by experts and the teacher community
  • use Wayground AI to generate a Passage and its questions for you in seconds
  • import your own passages, upload a document, embed a website, or simply create a passage from scratch

Math question types

Math Response

With the Math Response question type, students can use the equation editor to input their answers in the form of numericals, fractions, expressions, or a single equation. Here are the various options available to them on the editor.

This question type recognizes that there are several ways of writing the same expression or equation. For instance, (x+y)(x-y) has the same value as x² - y². Mathematical Equivalence enables students to express the answer to a question in multiple correct ways.

With Mathematical Equivalence enabled, a student's response that is equivalent to your answer will also be marked as correct. For example, if you have entered 1.5 as the expected correct answer to your question, 1½ and 3/2 will also be recognized as correct responses in the reports. You can assign a scaled grade if required, too.

Mathematical equivalence is enabled by default, and you can disable it by deselecting the checkbox. Note that points are not awarded for partially correct answers.

Graphing

Graphing is an auto-graded question type that is ideal for subjects like Physics and Math. It enables students to answer a question by plotting solutions on a graph. You can choose between points, linear, quadratic, and exponential solutions.

You can also add non-interactive plots such as points, lines, and curves to your graph. And, you have the option of changing the scale of the graph from 10 to 20 units. To learn more about this question type, refer to our article on Graphing.

Interactive & higher order question types

Match

The Match question type encourages your students to match concepts and topics they've learned in class. For instance, they can match animals with their natural habitats, books with their authors, and dates with important historical events.

This question type engages your students' critical and higher-order thinking skills as they drag and drop options to create matching pairs.

While creating a Match question, you can manually enter your answer options. Or, you can save time with Wayground AI and automatically generate matching pairs! To learn more, refer to our article on the Match Question Type.

Reorder

Assess students on higher-order thinking questions and gauge their understanding with the Reorder question type. Engage your students with fun questions that get them to think more critically about a problem or question. Your students will see these options as shuffled, and they'll be able to submit their answers in ascending or descending order per your requirement.

Categorize

The Categorize question type shows students a set of options that they can organize into groups. For instance, students can organize animals according to their classes, countries according to their systems of governance, books according to their genres, etc.

This question type supports up to four groups or categories and up to 20 options in total. The options can include text, images, or equations. To learn more about this question type, refer to our article on Categorize.

Drag & Drop and Drop-down

Encourage your students to practice higher-order thinking with Drop-Down & Drag-and-Drop question types on Wayground!

These question types are perfect for engaging learners in sequencing events and completing sentences interactively. They can also be used as great fill-in-the-blank and multiple-choice exercises, ideal for grammar practice, knowledge recall, and more!

When students see a Drag-and-Drop question on their Assessment/Quiz, they can drag and drop the correct answer into the blank. To unselect an answer, they can click on it, and it will return to the options bucket. For a drop-down question, all students need to do is click on the 'Select answer' button and choose the right answer from the options list. If they want to change their answer, they can click on the same blank and select another option.

Visual learning question types

Labeling

The Labeling question type on Wayground allows students to drag and drop text labels onto various parts of an image.

You can create Labeling questions by uploading an image and manually adding labels or using Wayground AI to generate labels. Up to 10 label options can be added with multiple correct answers.

Students experience this question type by dragging labels to their correct positions on the image, making it an interactive and engaging way to assess their knowledge.

To learn more about Labeling, check out this article: Question Type: Labeling

Hotspot

With Hotspot, students can select specific areas or regions on an image based on the question asked. Just like the Labeling question type, Hotspot is auto-graded and well-suited for visual learners and elementary students.

To use this question type, enter your question and select the image that is to be marked with hotspots. You can search for an image via Google search or upload an image directly from your device.

Next, add a question manually or choose one of the questions generated by Wayground AI based on the image. Then, choose between adding circular, rectangular, or freeform hotspots. The freeform hotspot enables you to mark a polygonal area of your choice.

Note that all hotspots for a given question must be of the same type. After marking a few hotspots, if you switch from one type of hotspot to the other — for instance, from circle to rectangle — you will have to begin marking them from scratch. You can add up to 10 hotspots and mark multiple hotspots as correct.

Learn more about Hotspot in this article.

Open-ended question types

Audio Response and Video Response

Audio and Video Response questions let students answer with their voice or video to make learning more interactive and personalized. Students can record responses directly from their devices, with options for retakes and replays to refine their submissions. Teachers can customize the response time (5 seconds to 5 minutes) and enable AI-powered auto-evaluation for Audio Responses.

The Audio Response question type is available for Assessments/Quizzes, Lessons, and Passages, while the Video Response question type is available for Assessments/Quizzes and Lessons.

You can learn more about these question types here: Question Types: Audio Response & Video Response

Draw

Available on all plans

Let your students to draw, identify, and point out using the draw question. Students have the option to choose between a highlighter, a pen, a color wheel, and an eraser. They also have the undo and redo options. Every answer attempted on a draw question will not be graded. You have the option to try it out, too. However, you can manually grade the answers submitted for this question type.

Poll

Available on all plans

With the Poll question type, there are no correct answers. You can choose whether to allow students to select only one or multiple options.

Word Cloud

Available on all plans

The Word Cloud question type enables quick visualisation of your students' responses. It organizes all their answers into a word cloud, where frequently occurring responses are shown in larger font sizes. Hovering on the responses in the word cloud displays the number of students who have submitted them.

This question type is open-ended and ungraded, which means it carries zero points. It is ideal for boosting engagement while quickly observing trends and commonalities in your students' responses.
