Setting Up and Using Read Aloud

Modified on Wed, 22 Apr at 5:05 PM

Read Aloud reads out session content so students can listen as they learn. It works on Chromebooks, laptops, desktops, and mobile devices, and supports a wide range of languages. This feature is especially useful for younger learners, language learners, and students who need extra reading support.

Set the Read Aloud language on a resource

Read Aloud uses the language set on the resource.

To set the language:

  1. Open the resource you’re creating or editing

  2. Click Settings in the top-right corner

  3. Select a language from the Language dropdown

  4. Click Save

Turn on Read Aloud on the student device

Students can turn Read Aloud on or off on their device and change how fast the voice reads. These settings appear on the join screen before a session starts. Students can also open them from the menu after the session begins.

To turn on Read Aloud:

  1. On the join screen, go to the Settings section below the Start button. If the session has already started, open the menu (☰) in the top-right corner to find the same settings.

  2. Turn on Read text aloud.

  3. Move the Speed slider to make the voice read faster or slower.
